Hurst Veterinary Surgery
Compassionate Surgical Services
Mayfair Village Animal Hospital provides high quality, compassionate surgical services for pets when they need it most. As an American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accredited veterinary facility, we boast a fully equipped surgical suite with the latest monitoring equipment and technology to keep your pet safe during their procedure. Our veterinarians will do everything we can to keep both you and your pet comfortable throughout the surgical process. We’ll answer your questions and help you understand everything you need to know about the surgery itself as well as any necessary aftercare. Your pet’s health and comfort is our top priority.
Comprehensive Veterinary Surgery
Our veterinary team is highly trained and kept up to date with the latest best practices and standards of surgical care. We take your pet’s health seriously and will only ever recommend a surgical procedure if we believe it will benefit your pet’s overall health and wellbeing.
We offer the following surgical services:
- Spay and neuter
- Eye surgery
- Orthopedic procedures
*Declawing is evaluated a patient by patient basis after an exam performed and all options for care are discussed.
As with any treatment at Mayfair Village Animal Hospital, our veterinarians will work closely with you to find the right solution for your pet’s medical needs. While we are proud to be able perform a wide range of specialized surgeries in-house, we may refer you to an advanced specialist for more precise care, depending on your pet’s condition. Regardless, our team will stay by your side every step of the way.
Post-Surgical Aftercare & Recovery
It’s important that your pet heals properly from their surgical procedure. Proper aftercare is essential to the healing process. Your Hurst veterinarian will make sure you understand all of the information you need in order to take care of your pet while they recover.
Aftercare plans typically provide instructions for:
- Activity – You will need to limit your pet’s activity while they’re recovering from surgery. Our team will let you know what activities are permitted or if your pet will need complete bed rest while they heal.
- Food and water – Immediately following surgery and depending on what kind of anesthetic we use, your pet may not be able to resume a normal eating schedule right away. We’ll let you know when your pet is able to eat and drink normally again.
- Monitoring the incision – If you notice any discharge, swelling, or redness around your pet’s incision site, contact us immediately as these symptoms could indicate an infection. We’ll make sure that you have the equipment you need to keep your pet from licking or scratching their incision site as well.
- Medication – Depending on your pet’s surgery, we may send your pet home with prescriptions for pain medicine or antibiotics. We’ll walk you through dosage, timing, and the duration of your pet’s medication regimen.
In addition to the aftercare details above, we’ll schedule a follow up exam to ensure that your pet is healing properly.
If your pet has recently had surgery and you have any questions or concerns about their recovery, please don’t hesitate to give us a call at (817) 601-1433! We’re here to help.
